Family Bridge to BC: Open House and New Student Convocation 2026
Bakersfield College is excited to usher in the new academic year with our students! As part of the renegade tradition, BC hosts the annual New Student Convocation. The word convocation literally means a “calling together,” which means you will now become part of the Renegade community!
Beyond welcoming you to your new community, we will also provide critical information about
- Learn how to navigate college successfully
- Discover important campus resources and student services
- Meet faculty, staff, and student leaders
- Gain tips for balancing academics, involvement, and wellness
- Build confidence before your first semester begins
- Celebrate the start of your college journey

- Enjoy inspiring messages from campus leaders
- Experience the energy, tradition, and pride of Bakersfield College
The Convocation activities include the Bridge to BC Family Scavenger Hunt! Families will join their student to explore some of our campus resources! FREE Parking and Dinner are included. Each registered student will also receive their official "WE ARE BC" shirt.

RSVPs are highly encouraged; it helps us plan! Please check your official BC student email for an RSVP invitation. If you don’t see it, check your spam or junk folder. Still can’t find it? Email us at studentlife@bakersfieldcollege.edu, and we will help you out.
- When does the event end?
Check-in: 6:00 PM
Guests Seated: 6:45 PM
Resource Fair and Free Dinner: 6:00 PM
Convocation Ceremony Begins: 7:13 PM, with the Renegade Mascot Gong Ceremony (which equates to 19:13 in military time, symbolizing the year BC was founded). The gong's vibration symbolized the beginning of our incoming students' academic journey and then rang again to confirm graduation in the Counseling and Advising Center.
Event Ends: Around 8:30 PM
- Where can I park?
We recommend parking in Lot P3 (Solar Lot), located at Panorama Drive & Mt. Vernon Avenue.
- Do I have to pay for parking?
No — parking is free during the event.
- What should I bring?
Just bring yourself and be ready to enjoy the day! Your family, friends, supporters, and siblings are also encouraged to attend this annual family-friendly event. We are all here to support you through your academic journey at Bakersfield College. We also recommend everyone wear comfortable clothes and shoes, apply sunscreen, bring a hat, and bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated, as it's typically hot and sunny!
- Will there be food?
Yes! Complimentary dinner will be provided before the main event for you and your guests. Food and accommodation will be provided based on the RSVP form, on a first-come, first-served basis. Check your BC email to RSVP.
- Is it mandatory?
Convocation is not required, but it is highly encouraged. It’s the best way to start your BC journey strong: meet staff, discover resources, and feel connected to your new campus community.
- Will I get help with registration or classes?
Convocation is focused on celebration and connection. Staff will be available at the Resource Fair to answer general questions and connect you with services like Counseling, Financial Aid, and more.
- What are the Student Supporter Workshops happening during Convocation?
Student Support Workshops will be offered in both English and Spanish. Topics include how to support your student’s college journey, and a Financial Aid Workshop with a live support session will also be available.
